Parents who want their children to experience as adults the love and subsequent happiness that previous generations took for granted, need to reclaim their role as the primary educators of their children in the matter of sexuality and formation in chastity.This resource and accompanying programme have grown out of the many requests by parents for assistance and from the Church's desire to encourage and assist parents in guiding their children's social, sexual and moral development. Throughout the chapters of the resource a secure foundation is progressively built up by presenting sexuality within the context of faith and moral values.
Issues raised by the Pontifical Council, such as the difficulties of classroom sex education and the role of the media, are explored in as far as they contribute to a wider understanding of the issues surrounding sexuality eduction. Some of this information may be disturbing to parents who are unaware of what is being taught to their children. We have attempted to provide a balance between essential spiritual foundations, psychosocial understanding, and practical resources - in a word, "solid food" which parents can digest and in turn pass on to their children.
