Lessons from the Cure d'Ars

Bishop Patrick O'Donoghue takes the opportunity fo this "Year for Priests" to re-examine the role of the priesthood today, especially in the light of the lessons we can learn from the life of St John Vianney, soon to be patron saint of all priests.

He examines four main themes: a priest's courage to proclaim salvation, to share in the self-emptying of Christ, his freedom for mission and his immersion in the truth of Faith. He evaluates a priest's importanat ministry in light of Vatican II and developments since; he draws eternal lessons from the life, holiness and ministry of John Vianney - his personal limitations and the context of a traumatised post-Revolution Church in which he operated.
