The Green Scapular or Scapular of the Immaculate Heart of Mary is, like the Miraculous Medal, a gift of our Blessed Mother to the Daughters of Charity of St Vincent de Paul.  On January 28, 1840, Justine Bisqueyburu, was favoured with a vision of Our Lady which was to be the first of several more visits from the Mother of God, usually on significant feast days of Mary.

The devotion was slowly spread and wrought numerous miracles through the invocation and intercession of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.  It is hailed as a great spiritual aid in times of illness of body and soul.  The prayer surrounding the image of Our Lady’s pierced heart “Immaculate Heart of Mary, Pray for us now and at the hour of our death”, is to be recited either by the wearer or the giver.  No special ceremony is required but that it be blessed by a priest.  It may be worn around the neck, carried in a pocket, placed under the pillow of the bed or hung somewhere in a room.
