This is a beautiful specimen of the traditional Pyx used to take Our Lord in Holy Communion to the sick and housebound.
It is presented in a rich ‘gold’ and the letters IHS adorn the lid of the receptacle. (IHS is an example of a Christogram, an abbreviation of the name of Christ. It is a Latinized version of the Greek letters ΙΗΣ (iota-eta-sigma), the first three letters of the name “Jesus” in Greek. So, the IHS symbol means “Jesus.”)
This Pyx has the capacity to carry 50 hosts
A truly lovely receptacle in which to transport the Lord of Hosts.
8cm across, 2.3cm deep.
